The stubborn stalker, bad manners and first date cooking issue

I broke up with someone about two months ago. But he constantly calls, comes by and is now bothering my friends. What do I do?

Help, Stalker Troubles, Winston-Salem, N.C.
Dear Stalker Troubles,
First, try plan A. Clearly say, "I don’t want anything to do with you!" Second, insist that he stop calling, coming by or bothering your friends. Third, be tough, stern and aggressive, even if it's not your nature. If this fails, then go to plan B. First, go to his work and publicly embarrass him by making a big scene! Second, call his friends and family and tell them to stop him or you’ll see them in court. Also, think restraining order. Lastly, take a vacation. Sipping a martini on a beach, sweetie, is much healthier than sitting around waiting for trouble.

Hayden and Milo Dress to the Nines For a Night on the Town

We were starting to wonder whether Hayden Panettiere and Milo Ventimiglia were still involved in their semi-illicit relationship. We only saw them looking couple-y together once and she did spend her Valentine's Day with her family, after all. But it looks like the answer is yes and the two were very gussied up for a private party in LA on Saturday night. Of course both of them looked impeccable for the fancy pants event, but there's something about Milo in that tuxedo (especially with the bowtie) that makes it look like he works for her? Just saying.

eLife goes by pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a ...

THE BAY AREA is filled with techno geeks. Just check out your neighborhood coffee house, airport or BART car and you'll see people nose deep into their laptops, submerged in their iPods or glued to their Kindle eBook. This place is a hotbed for early adapters, eager to snag the latest technology.

I am not one of them.

In fact, until recently I'd describe myself as techno-challenged, someone whose personal bubble hovers in techno-no-no territory. Start chatting about your iPhone and I enter a semi-comatose state as I pray to be elsewhere. Start talking megabytes, beta versions, download, upload, and I'm ready to explode.

But take away the techno-babble, and suddenly I realize that I — like many — am fully engaged in eLife. And I love it.

For example, a few months ago, I made a creative U-turn in front of a Danville police officer.

Three’s not a crowd for the BBC in a digital era

In the spirit of the Facebook era, viewers will be able to become friends of Lily via a BBC website and help to shape the programme by suggesting the questions that she should ask guests - the kind of sensible television-to-web integration that smart new channel controller Danny Cohen has had on his agenda since the day he arrived this year from Channel 4.

This kind of programme is targeted exactly at the younger viewers that BBC Three aims to serve and is hardly likely to find offence with anybody who actually watches it. Yet if you believe the critics, whose ranks include John Humphrys, the channel is so chock full of unBBC nonsense that it is a disgrace to broadcasting. Their argument is based on programmes they have almost certainly not watched but whose titles sound outrageous enough – F*** Off, I’m a Hairy Woman, My Man Boobs and Me, and Teens Addicted to Porn to name a few.

Obama campaign reports $32-million infusion

On the Republican side, the leading candidates were recovering from a contentious debate Wednesday night. Former Massachustetts Gov. Mitt Romney campaigned in a wide swath from Long Beach to an evening rally scheduled in San Diego.

Arizona Sen. John McCain campaigned in Los Angeles and picked up the endorsement of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger had signaled on Wednesday that he would back McCain, so there was little suspense in today's formal announcement at a solar energy business in Los Angeles.

Also attending today's news conference was former New York City Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, who formally dropped out of the presidential race on Wednesday after he was trounced in the Florida primary.

In a year-end filing with the Federal Election Commission, Giuliani disclosed that he had raised $58.5 million and had spent $48.8 million in 2007.

Suspects in Haiti child sex abuse case include Quebec's 'Father Teresa ...

An aid worker once described as the "Québécois Father Teresa" is one of two men who were charged Wednesday with sexually assaulting children at a Haitian orphanage.

Quebec City residents Armand Huard, 64, and Denis Rochefort, 59, each face multiple counts of sexual assault under a rarely used law allowing international child-sex crime prosecutions.

Police say the allegations involve 10 boys in their early teens.

The men will face a bail hearing in Quebec City on Thursday.

A Quebec charity internet site named Association Grandir describes Huard as "a veritable Québécois Father Teresa" but says he was better known to Haitian orphans as "Papi" over 12 years of aid work.

Association Grandir did not respond to an e-mail interview request on Wednesday.

Pleasure, pain for investors on love's day

It's Valentine's Day. Here's how an investment analyst can tell.

- Sugar and cocoa futures are up. Indeed, the two commodities of love have been among the best bets investors could have made so far this year. Since Dec. 31 sugar futures are up 18 percent, and cocoa is up 21 percent.

Unfortunately, the recent gain in sugar prices was attributed in part to a deadly Feb. 7 fire at a sugar refinery in Georgia.

How the 'clean factor' plays in relationships

It's no surprise to this self-proclaimed germ freak that, in the world of relationships, the "clean" factor weighs more than some may have thought.

When Yahoo Personals and Clorox teamed up to do a survey about how cleanliness affects our love lives, they discovered some very interesting proclivities:

-- Almost one-third of respondents found that when it comes to selecting a partner, a person's domestic cleaning habits are very important, and bad habits can be a deal breaker.

-- More people would rather date a germ freak than a complete slob.

-- Six out of 10 people consider cleaning compatibility to be as important as sharing common interests.

-- Over one-third of respondents said their dates had to be both neat and clean, and the vast majority felt they had to be at least neat or clean.
