Benton County Sheriff Candidates State Cases
Then a decision will be made if it is opportune for me to lend him my writing skills. He has offered to meet me for a cup of coffee somewhere of if I can't get out, to possibly come to my house for a face to face meeting. I can better evaluate a person if I can look them straight in the eyes while I'm talking to them. I did do some comparing of all three men running for the Sheriff's office and found Mr. Lee to be the best qualified candidate. That's a complete turnaround for me. At first blush, I was not supportive of him running again. But in all fairness, and with a little prodding from his supporters, I decided to give him another look. I'm glad I did. I've kept my responses simple for all the other bloggers here. " .
Pitt Denies 'M:I' Shake-up
Brad Pitt has slammed rumors he's set to replace Ton Cruise in the struggling "Mission: Impossible" franchise. Cruise, who has played agent Ethan Hunt in the action movies, was axed by Paramount Studios last month following "Mission: Impossible III"'s poor box office takings and his "unacceptable conduct" off screen. Pitt was hailed as a potential savior for the fourth installment, but his rep scoffs at the suggestion. The spokesperson tells the New York Daily News, "It's totally made up." .
Snapper offered dying Princess Diana photos for $700K
Two shots of Diana, showing her slumped on the floor of the car's mangled wreckage, were sent to the picture desk of The Sun tabloid by Romuald Rat, one of the paparazzi pursuing her. Stephane Darmon, Mr Rat's motorcyclist on the night Diana was killed, said the photographer had tried to help at the crash scene on August 31, 1997. But in robust court exchanges, Darmon's version was contested by Richard Keen, lawyer for chauffeur Henri Paul, who died in the crash along with Diana and her lover Dodi al-Fayed. "What Mr Rat was protecting was not the victims of this crash, but the £300,000 exclusive that he had just telephoned into the Sun from the tunnel," Mr Keen told the London inquest probing the deaths of Diana and Dodi. Mr Keen accused Mr Rat and Mr Darmon of offering versions of the event that were "self-serving lies" designed to protect them from charges of manslaughter and failing to give assistance to people in distress.

The rest of our daydreams are more prosaic—like matching budget authority and outlays, or revising the definition of poverty, now hopelessly out of date. When we're feeling especially frisky, wonks close our eyes and imagine the Alternative Minimum Tax being fixed. President Bush has no use for wonks, and hacks have grabbed the headlines in most Bush scandals. But the sheer volume of scandal in the Bush administration has made it possible for even a few eggheads to get a piece of the action. Paul Wolfowitz used to be a classic Washington academic—dean of a public-policy school and charter member of a neoconservative think tank. But at the World Bank, he has pulled off the rarest of feats—a wonk sex scandal, which is just as you'd expect: a dull morass of committee meetings, personnel classifications, and contracts.
Banking 1991-2000
Officers of the Chief Military Prosecutor's Office charged him with accepting bribes of about $1.5 million and embezzling 500 million rubles with the use of forged documents. On February 3, the law "On Banks and Banking Activity" was signed by the president of the Russian Federation. The new law specified a precise list of banking operations requiring a license from the Central Bank. Now only banks were allowed to concurrently attract funds for investments, to invest them on their behalf, and open and maintain accounts. On March 14, Chara Bank's license was revoked. On March 18, the apartment of Central Bank chairman Sergei Dubinin was fired on. Three bullets hit a window, and five more lodged in a wall. The investigative division of the 2nd District Office of Internal Affairs of Moscow's Central District filed criminal charges of "malicious hooliganism notable for its exceptional cynicism." On April 23, Yury Agapov, head of Kredobank, asked the Central Bank to grant stabilization credit.
Assumption Church requires $9.8M in repairs
Assumption Church, the oldest Catholic parish in Canada west of Montreal, may close due to mounting costs to repair crumbling walls, the church's pastor said Thursday. A report completed last week, based on a half year of exploratory work which ended in November, pegged the cost of repairs at $9.8 million, significantly higher than an earlier $6.1-million estimate. Perhaps worse, the architectural report suggests that the outside walls should be repaired by no later than the end of 2009, lest falling pieces pose a danger to passers-by. .

WCC NEWS: Service celebrates WCC's 60th anniversary
Gathered in a church dating from the 12th century, the World Council of Churches seemed like a relative youngster as it celebrated its 60th anniversary Sunday 17 February. But His All Holiness Bartholomew I, Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, reminded the near-capacity congregation at Geneva's St. Pierre Cathedral that the WCC has accomplished much in its six decades. "The Council has provided an ideal platform where churches with different outlooks and belonging to a great variety of theological and ecclesiological traditions have been able to engage in dialogue and promote Christian unity, while all the time responding to the manifold needs of contemporary society", the Orthodox leader said, speaking in French. He acknowledged the challenges and "turbulent" periods in the Council's life, but said that dialogue resulted from those difficulties and has paved the way forward.
