Couple surrenders to tractor pull of love

CARLISLE, Pa. — Sonya Rinker was looking for a guy: someone who was kind, respectful and had a special place in his heart ... for tractors. She wanted a man who could share the thrill of a good tractor-pull show, who could see beauty in a shiny row of green and yellow of John Deere tractors.

She didn't know that somewhere along these rolling Pennsylvania hills, there was such a man, a shy guy named Tom with two vintage Deere tractors. He had been looking for a gal, someone who'd put up with his milking cows at 3 a.m. and his six-day work weeks.

Sonya Rinker and Tom Henisee lived 57 miles apart when they both signed up for an online matchmaking service designed to link up people just like them — farmers and others who know their way around a barn and a milking machine.

S Korean president calls for closer ties with Japan

President Lee Myung-Bak on Saturday called for South Korea and Japan to stop feuding over their history and build ties to bind the two neighbours closer together.

In a speech marking the 89th anniversary of a 1919 popular uprising against Japanese colonial rule over the Korean peninsula, Lee said South Korea must not be caught up in disputes over history.

"We face too many challenges for us to look back. We should not let ourselves be bound by the past," he said.

Lee, who was inaugurated on Monday, said pragmatism should be the dominant theme in all fields ranging from politics and economics to security and diplomacy.

"South Korea and Japan should also try to foster a future-oriented relationship with a pragmatic attitude," he said.

Fergie's debut makes for an uneven ride

Her single "London Bridge" is a thrill, a sassy slice of pop that has a cranky groove so bold it more than makes up for the nonsensical, dirty nursery rhyme lyrics. So what happened to the rest of "The Dutchess" (will.i.am/A&M), the Black Eyed Peas singer's solo debut?

"The Dutchess" is like one of those albums from the late '90s that helped bring down the music industry - one with a few extraordinary singles and loads of filler, turning it into a roller-coaster ride of quality highs and embarrassing lows.

Cougars on the prowl

"What's a cougar-woman?" Barbara Walters asked recently on "The View," in that Barbara Walters way of hers: part journalist, part socialite with a dirty mind. And thus, the archetype of the cougar - the sexy older woman who seduces younger men - reached the ears of a woman in sensible pumps. Another cultural boundary had been breached.

But don't fret, Barbara; you're not too late. If Mrs. Robinson came first, and Samantha on "Sex and the City" gave hope for broad acceptance, the cougar has now become a full-fledged pop-culture punch line. Last summer, NBC gave us "Age of Love," a dating show that pitted 20-something "kittens" against 40-something cougars in pursuit of one hot Australian man. (The winner, no surprise, was 25.) In last fall's straight-to-DVD movie "Cougar Club," Faye Dunaway vamped as the oversexed wife of a college grad's boss-to-be.

Best Answers to Sunday Question ...

The van driver, a salt & pepper-haired older man with a beard, hollered at the woman to pay attention to the traffic lights before crossing the street. The woman shouted at him to "Go back to California!" I guess the driver didn't graduate from Duane's "The Tourist is Always Right" class or get the memo about not shouting at people who could be guests at the Resort while driving a company rig.

The Dark Knight

Other additions include Maggie Gyllenhaal, she takes over from Katie Holmes who has apparently had a conflict in shooting schedules so cannot appear, in the role of Rachel Dawes and Aaron Eckhart.

It has been heavily hinted that the Dark Knight will tell the origin of Heath Ledger's Joker who was already terrorising the street of Gotham at the end of Batman Begins.

The Dark Knight is set two years after Batman Begins and Batman and Gordan have teamed up with District Attorney Harvey Dent to help catch the Joker who's crimes are becoming more deadly.

As well as this Batman aka Bruce Wayne and Gordan are trying to clean up the streets of Gotham by trying to re-capture those freed at the end of the first movie, this includes Crane/Scarcrow despite Cillian Murphy not being named on the cast list.

Steve Harvey Offers Hope For Black Radio

As black history month comes to a close, it is worth drawing attention to bright spots in black culture. One is comedian Steve Harvey's morning radio show. Harvey brings challenging commentary on aspects of black life using critical humor. Together with other solid black radio programs, Harvey's show renews hope that African-Americans will successfully address the moral and socio-economic ills troubling their communities.

Unlike many black radio personalities, Harvey is not afraid to call out ignorance. The morning show caught my attention several months ago when Harvey made a public declaration that he would never play misogynistic music that degrades black women. This type of direct, on-air leadership will help put a dent in a genre of music that is rending the social fabric of our society.
