ABC's Obamacan: 'Lashing Out' Hillary 'Brazenly' Attacks Barack

This is too perfect! Barely an hour after Pat Buchanan proclaimed on NBC that the MSM is full of "out-of-the-closet Obamacans," ABC's David Wright provided a perfect illustration of the genre.

In fact, I'm nominating the GMA segment Wright narrated this morning as the single most slanted episode of the MSM primary season. The screen graphic "On the Attack," set the theme: Hillary is unfairly attacking Obama, and to the extent Barack's gone negative, it's only to rebut Clinton's unfair criticism. Oh, and Hillary's demographic is crumbling. And by the way, Bill's dissing Obama supporters.

10 Prolific offender jailed for homophobic arson attack

A heartless youth with two antisocial behaviour orders under his belt has been jailed for 10 years after setting fire to a gay couple's home as they slept.

Sonny Lockwood, 20, targeted his victims, Nicholas Hughes and Peter Cameron at their home in North Downs Crescent, New Addington, in retaliation to the pair testifying against him at an earlier Asbo hearing.

He denied the charges of arson with intent to endanger life.

However, a jury found him guilty of two counts of arson at Croydon Crown Court last September and he was sentenced by Judge MacRae yesterday.

Nicholas Hughes awoke in the early hours of the January 23, 2006, to find the hallway of his home in North Downs Crescent alight.

Petrol was poured through the letterbox of Mr Hughes' home while he and his partner Peter Cameron were asleep in their upstairs bedroom.

Lawmakers select new computers

They would be especially useful when committee clerks need to track down a lawmaker who's absent from a committee meeting."This would be instantaneous communication with every legislator in the building and throughout the day," he said.A major advantage of having such BlackBerry devices is that lawmakers could be in constant touch with their state e-mail accounts in a secure fashion. They can do this in a roundabout manner today -accessing the server from an online application on a personal BlackBerry - but this method is less secure.Common among corporate employees, lawyers and political staffers, BlackBerrys essentially provide a cell phone and mobile e-mail service in one device. About 170 state employees use BlackBerrys for their jobs, according to state Information Technology Department.Another issue is who pays for the devices.Rep.

Dancing at Versailles to the EU Treaty

Indeed, at Versailles they bring in a real, live, giant stamp to endorse the document.

No plan B

President Sarkozy had made no bones about it, and repeatedly made it clear in his election campaign that if he was president there would be no second referendum. Few politicians are open enough to say “we just can't take the risk", but I thought French Prime Minister Francois Fillion was pretty direct:

“Two years ago, we rejected a text that gave the European adventure a constitutional look. That was the choice of the French people, and it had to be respected. But we cannot ignore the fact that in doing so we threw Europe, Europe that had hope in us, into surprise and confusion.

“There was no Plan B, so the European Union was paralysed and the finger was pointed at us.

65 jobs at risk in SimplySwitch closure

Daily Mail and General Trust is to close price comparison website SimplySwitch just 18 months after acquiring the business in a deal worth £22m.

The Daily Mail owner admitted that all SimplySwitch's 65 employees could lose their jobs and a consultation on redundancies has already begun.

SimplySwitch, which allows customers to compare rates for utilities, credit cards, telephone and broadband services, is expected to shut on February 20 after DMGT executives said it was not receiving enough traffic to generate profits.

DMGT's digital division, Associated Northcliffe Digital, struck a £22m deal - £16.5m in cash - in August 2006 to acquire the website as part of a strategy to reduce the parent company's dependence on traditional print advertising revenue streams.

pride of Fiji says… it would have been good if the whole IG cabinet was reshuffled. the reason for the reshuffle was the poor performance of these puppets.what was thier leader (bai) doing if these puppets were performing poorly. or it takes a year on the peoples expense to judge that these ministers did not reach thier goals. have read that the IG are saying that the country is moving forward but with these ministers as they were not performing up to bai's stantard. how can we the people of this country believe that the country is really move forward.cant say who was doing good to the country.as a citizen i have seen no improvement in the services provided by these government.

Price jump helps mines

But the Main Street gold rush doesn't necessarily signal a return to boom times for Montana's mining industry, officials said.Robin McCulloch, a staff field agent of the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology and a professor at Montana Tech, said higher metals prices will help expand the life of Montana's existing gold mines. But he doesn't anticipate any significant increase in new exploration or development.Consolidation in the mining industry, a shortage of engineers and geologists, and an uncertain regulatory climate all stack the cards against new mine development, he said."The idea of flipping a switch and the boom days returning - it ain't going to happen," McCulloch said.McCulloch said a lack of exploration is another issue confronting Montana's mining industry.Beaudry said SMC continues to explore for new reserves within the Stillwater Complex and has diversified by acquiring an interest in Pacific NorthWest Capital Corp.

'Evolution' to make debut in Fla. science standards

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida schoolchildren will be taught that evolution is a “scientific theory" through a compromise yesterday that left neither side satisfied although supporters of Charles Darwin's big idea were much happier than its opponents.

That's because Florida's public school science standards for the first time will actually use the word “evolution" although the biological concept currently is taught under code words such as “change over time."

More significant, though, the new standards require more in-depth teaching of evolution and hold that it is “the fundamental concept underlying all of biology and is supported by multiple forms of scientific evidence."

That statement rankled opponents, some of whom had urged the State Board of Education to add an “academic freedom" provision that would have let teachers “engage students in a critical analysis of that evidence."

Evolution supporters, including mainstream scientists and clergy, told the board before the 4-3 vote that the academic-freedom proposal was a wedge designed to open the door for injecting religious arguments into science studies.

Melbourne farewells a scholar and a raconteur

SINCE former Age editor Creighton Burns died last weekend, friends and former colleagues have praised him as a rare and inspiring combination of larrikin and intellectual, journalist and academic.

At Burns' memorial service at Ormond College yesterday, such tributes were heard again. But they were completed by the testimony of two of his children, Jonathan and Rebecca.

They spoke of a man who gave up his editorship to become a full-time father during the final illness of their mother, Anita.

He would make their dinners each night and their school lunches each morning, dispatched with a love note. It was not an image of Creighton Burns that some who worked alongside him could easily have conjured up. But none who knew him doubted that being willing to give up work for his family was entirely in character.

Something to Take to Heart

Tonight, after practice, I saw this little blonde headed boy that I see around town constantly. You wanna know where I see him everytime? On the basketball court. The kid, being about as mature as you can be at his age. He is probably a 2nd grader, and he walks around town as if he was 15. Something is noticable though everytime I see him. First of all, I have yet to ever see his parents. Secondly, he doesen't seem to be the most lucky kid when it comes to who has the money and who doesen't. Living in a poor family as a kid, I know how that can be. But, everytime I see him around the court, he doesen't normally say a word to me but he will give me a little head nod. Of course, I will give one back and he will continue to watch me on the court. However, he once told me that I am his favorite basketball player and that really felt great to me.

Spooner, Gudbranson top list of Ottawa-area draft prospects

With the exception of Shawn Lalonde, the first round of recent Ontario Hockey League drafts has been a virtual non-event for local hockey talent.

Lalonde, who went ninth overall to Belleville in 2006 and has the NHL draft this June here in his hometown on his mind, is the only Ottawa-area player drafted in the first round by an OHL team since 2002 and one of only 13 locals dating back to 1997.

All of that is going to change May 3 when the OHL teams hunker down in their respective war rooms and begin selecting the best players born in 1992.
