Guerrero reclaimed the vacant title in February 2007 with a TKO of Spend Abazi. Six of his last seven fights overall have ended with sudden stoppages. Guerrero's wife, Casey, climbed into the ring for a post-fight hug after one of Guerrero's fights for the first time in more than a year. The mother of two was diagnosed with leukemia late last year, only days before Guerrero fought Martin Honorio in Tucson, Ariz. While Casey was in the hospital back home in the Bay Area last fall, Guerrero -- who had barely slept in the previous week -- knocked out Honorio 56 seconds into the bout with one devastating punch. Casey's leukemia was found to be in remission in late December, and she felt well enough to attend Guerrero's first fight since beating Honorio.

Myanmar refugee focuses on rights abuses
In June, he was part of a coalition of ethnic leaders who made the rounds in Washington, D.C. "I got to meet with Laura Bush, a sharp lady, very interested in children's education and health care," he says. He also has been involved in World Aid Inc. of Seattle, a small, volunteer-run organization that provides medical supplies, food, blankets, plastic tarps and other items for Myanmar refugees in Thailand and internally displaced people inside Myanmar. The U.S. has been "on the forefront of sanctions" against Myanmar, he says. "Sanctions are just words. But for the people of Burma, there's a lot of hope thinking that people in the U.S. are standing with us." He says that "in the midst of all the bad stuff -- the attacks, the stepping on mines, the burning of villages, is that the human element in Burma is very loving and very caring.
The Decline and Fall of NATPE
Everyone with even the faintest appreciation for films and TV knows that the Oscar awards are about to unfurl, with full speed preparation, following the end of the writers' strike. But comparatively few people outside The Industry know about what is – or more accurately, was – perhaps Hollywood's most important day outside of the annual Oscars and Emmys: the NATPE (National Association of Television Program Executives) Conference, held annually in Las Vegas. (In the past, it sometimes alternated with New Orleans, but Hurricane Katrina put a stop to that.) NATPE originally began as a spinoff of the National Broadcasters' Association's annual conference in the mid 1960's, but its glory days really began in the early ‘70s, when the FCC's Prime Time Access Rule, was first implemented.
